CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Aug 29, 2012) - Spectrem Group announced today that its Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) dipped 1 point to -8, a 10-month low. The Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) was unchanged from July at -10, which had been the lowest reading in eight months. The Index measures the investment confidence and outlook of households with $500,000 or more in net worth.
"Despite the disappointing Investor Confidence levels, Millionaire and Non-Millionaire households did express an increased level of confidence in the economy from the previous month," George H. Walper, Jr., President of Spectrem Group, said. "But their overall attitude toward the economy is at its second lowest level thus far in 2012."
Affluent households were more active in the market in August, but they tended toward more conservative investments, such as cash or bond mutual funds.
Spectrem's monthly survey of affluent households also found that the political environment is overwhelmingly the news story that is most affecting their economic outlook. With the election just over two months away, these investors are concerned about how partisan gridlock is impacting the economic recovery.

Methodology
The Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) is based on 250 monthly online interviews with the financial decision-makers in households with $500,000 or more in investable assets. The Index has a margin of error of plus or minus 6.2 percentage points. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) is based on a subset of the overall survey group.
