Telguard Launches First 3G/4G Upgrade Kit for TG-7 Series Cellular Alarm Communicators

TG-KIT Helps Security Dealers Easily and Cost-Effectively Upgrade 2G Commercial Intrusion and Fire Systems

ATLANTA, Sept. 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telguard, a division of Telular Corporation (Nasdaq:WRLS), and a leader in alarm monitoring solutions and services, today introduces the TG-KIT. The TG-KIT is used to upgrade all 2G (GSM and GPRS) Telguard TG-7 series communicators to 3G/4G solutions. With the kit, 2G versions of the TG-7, TG-7A, TG-7F, TG-7FM, TG-7FS and TG-7S can be easily upgraded without having to remove the existing enclosure, antenna or power supply.

Last month AT&T announced December 31, 2016 as the date of the 2G Sunset. Their official announcement started the countdown for dealers to upgrade their current base of installed 2G cellular alarm communicators. The cost to upgrade most commercial intrusion and fire 2G cellular communicators exceeds several hundred dollars. Each upgrade includes the price of new hardware, a complete recertification process and a truck roll. With millions of 2G cellular communicators needing to be replaced, the 2G Sunset can have a devastating financial impact on the commercial security industry.

Telguard's TG-KIT, the industry's first 3G/4G upgrade kit, makes the conversion simple and extremely affordable. In a matter of minutes, an installer simply replaces the 2G circuit board with a new one for 3G/4G networks without disturbing the site's UL certifications. This upgrade increases the longevity of a Telguard cellular unit, ensuring customer retention and protecting a dealer's earned revenue. Activation and service procedures will remain the same as they have been for Telguard's 2G products.

"We are excited to be the first manufacturer to provide the security industry with an easy way to upgrade our 2G commercial communicators," said Shawn Welsh, vice president of marketing and business development, Telular. "We remain strongly committed to helping security dealers proactively prepare for the 2G Sunset and minimize the financial impact on their business. We started last year as the first manufacturer to completely switch our product line to operate on 3G/4G networks. More recently, we launched the Telguard Upgrade Incentive Program, which pays dealers to upgrade any manufacturer's 2G product. Now, the industry's first upgrade kit gives dealers all the tools they need to confidently begin converting their 2G base today."

The Telguard upgrade kit is eligible for Telguard's Upgrade Incentive Program. Every time a Telguard 2G unit is upgraded with the TG-KIT, a dealer can receive up to $25. Visit www.Telguard.com/Upgrade for more details on the Telguard Upgrade Incentive Program.
