Thinfilm Named Runner-up for Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award

OSLO, 16 October 2012 - Thin Film Electronics ASA ("Thinfilm") (OSE: THIN.OL) today announced that The Wall Street Journal has named Thinfilm and PARC, a Xerox Company, as runner-up for the highly prestigious Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award in the Semiconductors and Electronics category. The winners and runners-up represent disruptive breakthroughs from conventional ideas and methods.

The Wall Street Journal received 536 applications from more than two dozen countries. A team of editors and reporters reviewed the entries and forwarded the 172 most promising to an independent panel of judges from venture-capital firms, universities and companies. From that pool, the judges chose a total of 37 winners and runners-up in 18 categories.

Thinfilm and PARC received the runner-up award for Thinfilm Addressable Memory(TM), the first printed electronic rewritable memory. Thinfilm Addressable Memory(TM) works as a technology platform for a wide range of printed electronic system products, such as smart tags, that combine memory with other printed components.

"We are proud that The Wall Street Journal recognizes the work Thinfilm is doing together with its technology partners, especially PARC, to introduce intelligence to everyday items," says Davor Sutija, CEO at Thinfilm. "Ultra low cost printed electronic systems are a disruptive technology, and will allow even disposable items to include sensors and logic in order to interact with consumers and users."

In addition to its partnership with PARC, Thinfilm's partner ecosystem includes companies that have developed novel materials and components, such as printed displays and sensors, as well as manufacturing relationships.

Thinfilm has received wide recognition for its contributions towards a world where virtually any item can have intelligence. Earlier in October, the World Technology Network named Thinfilm as a finalist in the World Technology Awards Materials category. The winners will be announced on 23rd October in New York.

The recognition by the Wall Street Journal and World Technology Network follows awards earlier this year from both the FlexTech Alliance and IDTechEx. Thinfilm was also recently recognized by GigaOm as one of the 15 Most Innovative Companies in mobile.
