ATCO Awarded Acoustical Design of 540 MW Power Plant

Facility features latest environmental controls and combined-cycle technology

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2012) - ATCO Emissions Management (ATCO) has been awarded a contract to design, supply and install a noise abatement solution for the Ferguson Replacement Project at Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

ATCO designed the noise control solution for the new power plant to meet the design requirements for low frequency noise emissions desired by the client. Low frequency sound of 250 Hz and below can be experienced as a 'rumble' or 'felt' instead of heard. ATCO's attenuation design will eliminate the rattling of doors and windows caused by low frequency sound emissions within the surrounding neighbourhood.

"Our guarantee to meet the stringent design requirements that protect the nearby homes by using economical acoustical design was essential to this project," said Harry Wilmot, President & Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Structures & Logistics. "We look forward to continuing our work with the Lower Colorado River Authority and Fluor, as the project's lead engineering and construction contractor, and completing a successful project with them."

The natural gas, combined-cycle power plant replaces the Lower Colorado River Authority's (LCRA) existing facility, built in 1974. The new plant will contain the latest environmental controls and combined-cycle technology to lower sound and air emissions while increasing reliability and efficiency.

With the expansion of ATCO Structures & Logistics' line of industrial emission control products that complement its traditional noise suppression solutions, the company developed a new division: ATCO Emissions Management. The new division provides noise and air emissions control for power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical and other industrial sites worldwide. The product portfolio offers acoustic and emissions management equipment, acoustical buildings and enclosures, acoustical engineering and consulting. To learn more, visit: www.atcoem.com
