New Committee Will Advise Gigya and Clients on Responsible Use of Consumer Identity Data

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 13, 2012) - Gigya, the leading provider of social infrastructure for business, today announced that it has formed the Gigya Privacy and Safety Advisory Board with distinguished privacy experts from the Future of Privacy Forum, ConnectSafely, and Stanford University. Initially, the Advisory Board will be charged with helping shape how Gigya and its clients access and use social data when end-users login to client sites using social login. Ultimately, the Advisory Board will expand its role to advise on broader consumer identity data practices, particularly as those practices are impacted by domestic and international privacy policies and regulations.

Members of the Privacy and Safety Advisory Board include:

  • Jules Polonetsky, director of the Future of Privacy Forum, a global leader in advancing responsible data practices.
  • Anne Collier, co-director at ConnectSafely, a group dedicated to advising parents, teens, and businesses on best practices on the social web.
  • Omer Tene, a widely regarded international privacy expert and Affiliate Scholar at the Center for Internet and Society, Stanford Law School.
  • Jill Nissen, Gigya's acting chief privacy officer.

The Advisory Board was formed in conjunction with Gigya's new SocialPrivacy™ Certification Program, which is designed to create trust and transparency between businesses and consumers in connection with social login.

"Joining the Gigya Privacy and Safety Advisory Board is a fantastic opportunity to work with other privacy experts to help shape the way businesses and consumers interact with each other on the social web," said Collier. "Our new Advisory Board will play a critical role in helping us develop products that allow businesses to access and use consumer identity data responsibly," said Patrick Salyer, CEO of Gigya. "By working with this group of internet privacy experts, we will also be able to provide our clients with best practices and guidelines for how they engage with and leverage social data."
