London, ON Veterinary Hospital Celebrates 40 Years of Service With Wellness Promotion for Pets

LONDON, Ontario, Dec. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Firth Veterinary Hospital in London, ON announced a special wellness promotion in conjunction with the vet hospital's 40th anniversary. The promotion includes savings on an annual wellness exam, X-rays, MLS therapeutic laser therapy, and urinalysis for senior pets. The vet hospital recommends that all pets, regardless of age, receive an annual wellness blood test. Any pets that have wellness blood work done before Dec 31 will receive a free bag of food. In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of senior wellness care, the vet hospital is also offering a free senior pet assessment with any senior wellness appointment.

In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of routine wellness care, Firth Veterinary Hospital is offering discounted wellness services for all pets through December 31. The discount is in conjunction with the vet hospital's 40th anniversary celebration. Savings are available on MLS laser therapy, blood work and urinalysis. Additional savings are also available on select senior pet care services.

"Wellness care is the foundation for all our pet care services," said Dr. Peter Firth. "Even a healthy pet should receive an annual exam. Diagnostic blood work conducted during this exam provides an important foundation for evaluating a pet's health."

As part of the discounted wellness services, any healthy pet that has wellness blood work done before December 31 will receive a free bag of food compliments of Hills. Dr. Firth is encouraging pet owners to take advantage of the discounted wellness services and schedule an appointment for pets that are overdue for their exam.

Dr. Firth recommends that all pets older than five years received an electrolyte and thyroid test, in addition to regular blood work. These tests will evaluate the internal organ and provide a complete blood count.

"The earlier we detect a potential health problem, the more we can do to treat the condition and keep a healthy pet in good shape," said Dr. Firth. "For example, a wellness pet care exam can help detect a thyroid imbalance or urinary tract disorder, two problems that are common in older pets."

Any pet owner who schedules a wellness exam for their senior pet will also receive a complimentary senior assessment with Dr. Firth. During this assessment, Dr. Firth will discuss the lab test results and the pet's lifestyle, making recommendations for preventative care.

"We know that with the holiday season approaching, pet owners can be very busy," said Dr. Firth. "This is why we are encouraging owners to plan now and schedule their pets' appointments. Wellness care is truly lifesaving. Many times, a change in blood work results may indicate the beginnings of a chronic health condition. Early detection improves treatment options."
