Skullcandy Launches High School Sponsorship Program

Brand Will Provide Product to Select Schools Nationwide in Support of Their Basketball Programs, Computer Labs and Libraries

PARK CITY, Utah, Dec. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Skullcandy, Inc. (Nasdaq:SKUL), a high-growth, performance lifestyle audio brand, is proud to announce the launch of a new sponsorship program supporting select high schools and their boys and girls basketball teams.

Skullcandy has official sponsorship relationships in place with Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) and Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL) and will secure several other schools across the nation in the coming weeks. In addition, Skullcandy will sponsor the Nike Extravaganza basketball tournament, held annually at Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, CA).

Skullcandy currently holds the license to produce NBA branded products and has long-term endorsement agreements with NBA stars Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Andre Iguodala.

"Skullcandy has a history of authentic partnerships with elite athletes and artists across sports, music, and culture. This program is no different. We couldn't be happier to be partnered with some of the finest schools in the country and to support world class student athletes on and off the court," said Nate Morley, Global VP of Marketing and Creative at Skullcandy.

As part of the agreement, the sponsored high schools will receive headphones customized to match school colors and logos for use by boys and girls basketball teams. The school will provide the headphones to players for use during the basketball season particularly while the players are traveling for away games. In addition, Skullcandy will provide headphones to the schools' computer labs and libraries for academic enhancement to be used by all students at the participating schools. The schools will also have the option to sell customized headphones on campus as a fundraising opportunity and will retain 100% of all profits made from these sales.

Paragon Marketing Group (PMG) helped create this high school program for Skullcandy and is also evaluating television and grassroots opportunities in this space on behalf of the brand.

To help launch the program, Skullcandy captured unique content at Simeon Career Academy, allowing fans behind the scenes access to the school and its 3-time defending Illinois State Champion Boys Basketball program.
