Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI(R)) Holds in May at Twelve-Month High

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - May 29, 2013) - Spectrem Group announced today that the Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) was unchanged in May from last month's 12-month-high reading of 2. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) dropped three points to 5. The monthly indices measure the investment confidence and outlook of households with more than $500,000 in investables and more than $1 million in investables, respectively.

"Affluent investors in May expressed an increased interest in safer, more conservative vehicles such as bonds as cash," noted George H. Walper, Jr., President of Spectrem Group. "Given recent market levels, it is not surprising. It indicates their continued wariness that this year's record high market rallies will continue."

When asked which news story is most influencing their economic outlook, the highest percentage of Affluent investors responded, "stock market conditions," followed by news about unemployment. Fewer Affluent investors this month said that news about the political environment or sequestration is having an effect on their economic outlook.

Affluent investors are also feeling more confident about financial factors that impact their daily lives, as reflected in Spectrem's May Affluent Household Outlook, which rose to a two-and-a-half year high.
