American Science and Engineering, Inc. Receives Orders for Two Z Portal X-ray Screening Systems for Middle East Government Agencies

Orders Expand Z Portal Installed Base in Middle East with New Country

BILLERICA, Mass., July 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) (Nasdaq:ASEI), a leading worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced the receipt of orders for two Z Portal® multi-view X-ray screening systems for two separate Middle East government agencies. One Z Portal system will be used for security at a port, and the other will provide security screening at a critical infrastructure facility. In both cases, the systems will be used to scan vehicles and trucks to detect explosive threats and contraband.

"The Z Portal installations for port and critical infrastructure security will significantly enhance the detection of drugs, trade fraud, and other contraband for these Middle East government agencies," said Chuck Dougherty, President and CEO of AS&E. "Additionally, the Z Portal system used for critical infrastructure protection marks the first deployment in this Middle Eastern country. Both orders offer further validation of the tremendous value our customers place on our X-ray screening systems and the expansion of our installed base in the Middle East."
