ATCO Sustainable Communities Awarded Contract for Saipoyi Community School Addition

Alternative modular solution selected by the Kainai Board of Education

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - July 23, 2013) - ATCO Sustainable Communities announced today that it has signed a contract with the Kainai Education Board to build a new addition to the Saipoyi Community School located in Standoff, AB. The Kainai Education Board is part of the Blood Tribe in Treaty 7.

The 5,500 sq. ft. school addition will be built using modular building technology to ensure project completion by the Fall of 2013. Connecting directly to the existing building, the addition will provide 4 new classrooms for grade 5 students; with each classroom able to accommodate 25 students.

"Our Chair, President and CEO Nancy Southern is an Honorary Chief of the Kainai, so this project has special importance for our company," said Boris Rassin, President, ATCO Sustainable Communities. "We put a lot of thought into this proposal and by utilizing modular prefabrication we'll complete this expansion two months earlier than if it were built completely on-site. We can do this without sacrificing quality and ensuring it blends seamlessly with the appearance of the existing school."

"Our children are our future," said Chief Charles Weasel Head. "It is our responsibility to provide our students with a facility where they can become responsible, natural learners, and follow the spirit and intent of Kainayssini".

ATCO Sustainable Communities combines ATCO's modern construction technologies with its long history of forming successful Aboriginal partnerships to build facilities that reflect a community's cultural values while offering shorter timelines and reduced costs.
