Prime, Entropic Extend Reach in Brazilian Satellite Low Noise Block (LNB) Market; Deploys Next-Gen Single-Cable Solution at Leading Brazilian Satellite Operator

Prime's LNB Converter Uses Entropic's Latest Channel Stacking Switch Chipset, the EN5288, to Lower Installation Costs, Simplify Upgrades and Enable Operator to Offer Advanced New Digital Satellite Services

SAO PAULO, Brazil, Aug. 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (ABTA 2013, Booth #D13) -- Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, and Prime Electronics & Satellitics Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced digital satellite communication and wireless consumer electronic products, advance their market leadership position in the satellite LNB market by deploying the most advanced, operator-class single-cable wire infrastructure, based on Entropic's market-leading Channel Stacking Switch (CSS).

Winning LNB business with a leading Brazilian Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) operator further extends Prime and Entropic's position in the Latin American DBS market – a market that is experiencing explosive growth. According to a June 2013 report from global business intelligence research firm Dataxis, titled "Pay-TV in Latin America: Cable, DTH and IPTV 2013 – 2018," satellite Direct-to-Home (DTH) accounts for the greatest growth in the region and by 2016, will have achieved a little more than half of total subscribers.

Prime's LNB with the Entropic EN5288 CSS technology allows DBS operators to support a single satellite, four tuners, and multiplex over-the-air (OTA) terrestrial signals all over a single-cable. With this approach, DBS service providers can deliver high definition (HD) programming and services to multiple rooms in the home from one satellite dish with easy plug-and-play STB installation. This use case minimizes installation costs, simplifies upgrades and enables DBS service where it would otherwise not be possible to deliver.

"With Entropic, we are continuing the single-cable momentum in the Latin America market, expanding into new opportunities from our previous generation product deployments," said Vincent Hung, vice president of Marketing and Sales, Prime Electronics & Satellitics Inc. "Entropic's EN5288 CSS technology enables us to offer a high-quality, low power, cost-effective system solution that alleviates the need for multiple cables to be brought into a home where more than one STB is installed."

"We have changed the paradigm for how DBS service is installed. We offer the only operator-class CSS solution to significantly reduce both the cost and complexity of satellite deployments," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "In working with Prime, we have enabled the top DBS operators in Brazil to lower system acquisition costs and deploy services that increase ARPU such as PVR and whole home networks. The benefits of CSS are compounded by the fact that these advanced services reduce customer churn and improve service satisfaction."

The EN5288 is Entropic's third-generation analog CSS silicon solution. It offers the lowest bill of material component count, smallest package size and is Entropic's most power-efficient analog CSS product to date. The EN5288 is a two-input, two-user channel output CSS solution for DBS television applications and works in an input frequency range of 950-2150 MHz.
