MetaMetrics Launches New Lexile.com

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - Sep 4, 2013) - MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading, recently released an improved version of its website, Lexile.com. The new website features user friendly navigation with a clean design, and quick access to the site's most popular tools. The website is also compatible with mobile and tablet platforms and designed to mirror the design and navigation of the Quantile® Framework for Mathematics' website, Quantiles.com.

Visitors to Lexile.com can now access many of their favorite pages directly on the homepage, such as the popular "Find a Book" search tool and Lexile Analyzer. The "Find a Book" tool matches readers with high-interest, ability appropriate texts. "Find a Book" helps librarians, educators, parents, and children build custom reading lists from over 150,000 literary and informational titles based on Lexile range (reading ability) and favorite topics. Users are also able to check the availability of books at their local library using the tool.

Lexile.com also houses the popular Lexile Analyzer, which more than 240,000 individuals have registered to use. The Lexile Analyzer measures text complexity by running text through a linguistic algorithm that examines the semantic and syntactic features of the text. Lexile measures evaluate how complex a text will likely be for a reader to comprehend so that the reader can be matched with texts that best complement his or her unique ability level and reading goals. Lexile measures range from below 200L, for early reader text, to above 1600L, for more advanced text. Over the past four years, users have analyzed over 1.9 million text files, and the number of words analyzed for commercial use exceeds 1.8 billion.

The popularity of Lexile.com and its tools continue to rise. In the past year, Lexile.com has seen an 18% increase in traffic and received nearly 5 million visits. Visitors to the website come from every state and 225 countries. In addition to Lexile.com resources, over 100 million articles have Lexile measures and are available from content aggregators such as EBSCO, Gale®, Newsbank®, and ProQuest.

"For over 15 years, Lexile.com has been a reliable and useful resource for students, educators and parents across the globe," said Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "Thanks to user feedback and a great team of professionals, Lexile.com is better than ever. We've worked hard to create an intuitive and user-friendly website that's easy to navigate so that educators, parents, and students can easily access their favorite tools along with the information they need."

The Lexile Framework is a unique tool for accurately matching readers with text. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework evaluates reading ability and growth based on actual assessment results, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Lexile measures help librarians, teachers and parents find books, articles and other resources within a reader's recommended Lexile range: 100L below to 50L above his or her Lexile measure. Reading materials within this optimal Lexile range will challenge the individual's reading ability, while still maintaining interest and learning.
