INSEAD, THE BUSINESS SCHOOL FOR THE WORLD, APPOINTS ITS NEW DEAN

Professor Ilian Mihov, currently Interim Dean at INSEAD, named
Dean of the school as of October 1, 2013

Fontainebleau, France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi - October 2, 2013 - INSEAD, the leading international business school, has appointed Professor Ilian Mihov, currently Interim Dean of the school, as Dean of INSEAD. With campuses in Europe (Fontainebleau, France), Asia (Singapore) and Abu Dhabi, INSEAD is the only global business school with a multiple campus structure.  As a signal of the global scale of the school, Professor Mihov will be the first INSEAD Dean to be based in Asia, with frequent travel around the world to engage the entire global INSEAD community. The School's presence in Europe will remain strong thanks to an appointed Deputy Dean and full academic and administrative team  which will be anchored on the Europe campus in France, the home of the 53-year old independent business school.

Franz Humer, Chairman of the INSEAD Board, said: "Ilian's deep roots at INSEAD will support him in this important leadership role to position INSEAD as the pre-eminent global business school and the faculty and the Board of Directors have given him an exceptional vote of support. With his academic strengths, strong connections with business and governments, and his outreach to alumni, donors, faculty and staff, Ilian will draw the community together to develop a bold strategy for INSEAD's future."

"We are fortunate that our predecessors foresaw the rise of globalisation and established a school destined to be the pioneer in the internationalisation of business and education. As Dean of the school, I will uphold the values of the founders, nurture INSEAD's vibrant intellectual environment, ensure innovation in our teaching to attract high quality students from around the globe, and increase the reputation of INSEAD through engaging our extraordinary network," said Professor Mihov.

"It is extraordinary that, thanks to the actions of so many, a start up in Fontainebleau should become what INSEAD is today, much beyond our wildest dreams, yet maintaining all the initial principles," said Claude Janssen, Honorary Chairman and one of the founders of INSEAD. "I am very confident that Ilian Mihov will fulfill his mission as the new Dean of the school and will continue its development thanks to his academic excellence and to a vibrant research environment."

Alvin Tan, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board said, "INSEAD has been a valuable partner to Singapore since establishing its campus here over a decade ago.  By delivering its top management and executive education programmes here, INSEAD has helped to place Singapore on the world map as a location to develop and manage talent.  Basing Professor Mihov in Singapore clearly speaks to the school's global mission, one of which we are delighted to be a vital part."

His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General at the Abu Dhabi Education Council said: "INSEAD is one of our strategic partners that is working with us to place education in Abu Dhabi on the forefront of international recognition, one that is designed to empower our people and build the absorptive human capital necessary for our country's future. We are delighted to welcome Professor Mihov in his role as Dean of the school and wish him the very best in his new endeavor. We will continue to work together through the different channels and look forward to a bright and fruitful future for our business leaders of tomorrow."

Professor of Economics Mihov joined INSEAD in 1996, teaching macroeconomics and econometrics in the MBA, EMBA, PhD and many executive education programmes as well as in the Global Leadership Fellows Programme of the World Economic Forum. He has been nominated several times as one of the best teachers in the MBA and EMBA programmes and he has won the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006, 2008 and 2009. His research is on topics related to monetary policy, fiscal policy and economic growth. He is also a research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (London, UK). He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Banque de France's Research Foundation (2002-2010) and of the Advisory Board of the Bulgarian National Bank. In 2010/11 and 2011/12, he served as a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Fiscal Crises.

Professor Mihov's papers have appeared in many academic journals including the American Economic Review and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. He has given interviews for BBC, CNBC Asia, Agence France Press, Dow Jones Newswire and many other newspapers and magazines. Professor Mihov is a regular keynote speaker, lecturer and panellist at events organised by PwC, WEF, KPMG, Hewlett-Packard, Bloomberg, Swiss Re, Alstom, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas among other companies.

Professor Mihov holds a PhD degree from Princeton University and a B.S. in business administration from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina where, in 2006, he was recognised as a Distinguished Young Alumnus.

Since 2011, he has served as Deputy Dean for Faculty and Research responsible for the recruitment of new faculty, as well as for the development of over 140 professors at INSEAD. He also oversees the PhD programme at INSEAD and the Research and Development committee.

Professor Ilian Mihov is in high demand for presentations on his research on emerging markets. "I have a strong belief that business is a force for good. There is no sustainable mechanism for uplifting people from poverty other than economic growth. There is no engine for long-term growth other than business creation and innovation. Today, we can state confidently that this is INSEAD's era. We are the vanguard of an exciting future. We have the opportunity to develop responsible, thoughtful global leaders who will transform companies, communities and nations throughout the world."

Franz Humer, Chairman of the Board of INSEAD, acknowledged Peter Zemsky, the school's Interim Dean based on the INSEAD Europe campus, for his dedication to the institution and the accomplishment of many important contributions. "Peter has been a driving force in INSEAD's programme innovations, external outreach and digitalisation strategy. Professor Zemsky will continue to have a central leadership role within the school. On behalf of the INSEAD Board of Directors, I would like to thank the Dean Search Committee for their hard work in this important selection and the entire INSEAD community for their support.  I welcome Ilian Mihov as the new Dean of The Business School for the World" said Franz Humer".
