SolarCity Opens New South Jersey Operations Center

Move Fueled by Importance of South Jersey in Fast-Growing Middle-Class Solar Market

BLACKWOOD, N.J., Dec. 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SolarCity® (Nasdaq:SCTY) today announced a new, 8,000-square-foot operations center in Blackwood, New Jersey, that will bring new jobs to the area and help South Jersey homeowners save money by using cleaner energy.

The expansion coincides with middle-class New Jersey homeowners becoming one of the hottest residential solar demographics in the nation, according to a recent Center for American Progress report. SolarCity is helping to drive that trend by making it possible for local homeowners and businesses to install solar panels for free, and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for utility power. SolarCity is expanding in the region even as local incentives have declined, which sends a strong signal that the local solar industry has matured over the last five years.

"To meet the type of demand we're seeing in South Jersey, we need cut drive times and get out to homes faster than we could from our Cranbury Operations Center," said Leon Keshishian, SolarCity's regional vice president on the East Coast. "We've had a lot of success here in South Jersey because we can offer homeowners from a range of socio-economic backgrounds the option to get solar with no upfront cost and make it possible for them to immediately pay less on their monthly bill."

The new South Jersey operations center has already created 20 local jobs, and SolarCity expects to fill 15-20 additional positions at the location in the next few months.
