CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Feb 25, 2014) - The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) fell 12 points to 5, its lowest reading in four months, Spectrem Group announced today. The Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) fell 9 points to -2.
The monthly indices measure the investment confidence and outlook of households with more than $500,000 in investable assets and more than $1 million in investable assets, respectively.
"The downturn in the indices is reflected in how Affluent investors indicate they plan to invest in the coming month," noted George H. Walper, Jr., President of Spectrem Group. "Volatility, which has dominated financial news, has shaken the confidence they had in the market at the beginning of the New Year, and in February we saw a marked upturn in those who plan to hold on the sidelines for now. Those who do plan to invest indicated a preference for stocks and stock mutual funds, but at lower levels than January."
Unsurprisingly, Affluent investors note that stock market conditions is the news story that is most impacting their current economic outlook. That outlook, as measured by the Spectrem Affluent Household Outlook, is down in February from January.

Methodology
The Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI ®) is based on 250 monthly online interviews with the financial decision-makers in households with $500,000 or more in investable assets. The Index has a margin of error of plus or minus 6.2 percentage points. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI ®) is based on a subset of the overall survey group.
