CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - May 27, 2014) - The May Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) increased six points from the previous month, its highest reading in seven years. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) gained 3 points to 14, a four-month high.
The Spectrem Group indices measure the investment confidence of households with more than $500,000 of investable assets and more than $1 million of investable assets, respectively.
The May Affluent Investor Confidence Index is at 9, up 7 points from the same period last year, while the Millionaire Investor Confidence Index is up 9 points from May 2013.
"Non-Millionaire investors, generally more cautious than Millionaires in their investment and economic outlooks, seem to be buoyed this month by several factors, including warmer weather, improved economic reports and strong quarterly corporate earnings," said George H. Walper, Jr., president of Spectrem Group. "The highest percentage of non-Millionaires in three months indicates they will be investing in equities in the coming month, while fewer said they will continue to hold on the sidelines."
For the first time in more than three years, Affluent investors said that international problems, more than the political environment or the economy, is the news most affecting their economic outlook.

Methodology
The Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI ®) is based on 250 monthly online interviews with the financial decision-makers in households with $500,000 or more in investable assets. The Index has a margin of error of plus or minus 6.2 percentage points. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI ®) is based on a subset of the overall survey group.
