GlyEco Hires New Lab Manager to Oversee Its Quality Assurance Control Program

The Company is Upgrading Its Testing Laboratory as Part of Its Strategy to Further Improve Production Throughput of Its Refinery-Grade Glycol Recycling

PHOENIX, June 30, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sustainable glycol technologies leader GlyEco, Inc. (OTCQB:GLYE) ("GlyEco" or the "Company") hired Wayne Merrifield as its new Lab Manager to oversee the Company's Quality Assurance Control Program.

Merrifield is a senior chemist with more than 20 years of experience in chemical laboratory management. In addition to overseeing the Quality Assurance Control Program, Merrifield will direct upgrades to the Company's chemical testing laboratory and manage a team of lab technicians. Prior to joining GlyEco, Merrifield held senior level lab management positions, including Manager, Quality Control at Troy Chemical Corp. and Director of Technology and Quality at Hercules Chemical Co. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Chemistry from Northeastern University and a Master of Science in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

"We are proud to welcome Wayne to the GlyEco team in New Jersey," stated John Lorenz, CEO of GlyEco. "As a leader of green chemistry solutions, it's vital that our in-house labs are led by someone highly innovative and forward-thinking, who executes with precision and tight control protocols. Wayne's successful track record of building top-tier R&D labs, analytical labs, and quality control programs is evidence that he encompasses all these traits and more. I believe he is a tremendous addition to our management team."

GlyEco is building a new, larger testing laboratory at its flagship New Jersey processing center, and hiring Merrifield is the Company's first phase of this initiative. The new laboratory will be highly sophisticated and efficient and will enable the Company to complete analysis of all glycol and inhibited glycol solutions, including MEG, DEG, TEG, PG, glycerine, antifreeze, heat transfer fluids, wing deicer, and other glycol-based fluids, reducing production throughput time while maintaining compliance with ASTM E1177 Type 1 (T1) and Type 2 (T2) recycled glycol standards.

Lorenz continued, "We continue to process a wider array of waste glycols with varying levels and types of contaminants. Having a resident expert housed in a state-of-the-art lab will provide speed, flexibility, and accuracy. This will enable us to increase production timelines by turning batch quality samples around more quickly, allowing for greater production while maintaining the high-quality standards our customers demand."

"GlyEco is changing the way people look at waste glycol. We have pushed the boundaries of what is possible by creating T1 recycled glycols from multiple types of glycol waste streams and opened the door to recycling for new customers in many industries. We intend to continue the charge forward with increasing processing capacity and further expansion into international markets, while leveraging a solid foundation of the highest product quality controls," stated Lorenz.

About GlyEco

GlyEco is a green chemistry company with a patent-pending technology for transforming a hazardous waste into green products. GlyEco Technology™ has the unique ability to clean the polluted glycols from all five waste-producing industries:  HVAC, Textiles, Automotive, Airline and Medical.  This technology recycles waste glycol to meet ASTM Type 1 specifications – the same level of purity expected of refinery-grade glycols.

This patent-pending technology enables our clients to handle the removal of their waste glycol in a responsible and environmentally safe manner.  Our clients can treat glycols as a more sustainable resource, recycling and re-using waste glycols repeatedly. Since most polluted glycol is disposed of in our surface waters - which can have devastating results for the environment, especially aquatic life - the GlyEco Technology™ solution gives our customers a way to reduce waste while caring for the environment, while reducing their costs.

About Glycol Recycling

Recycling waste glycols presents an inventive solution to supply shortages and increasing costs for refinery-produced material. Global consumption for refinery-produced ethylene glycol is over 5.5 billion gallons per year and climbing. GlyEco Technology™ is uniquely able to process all five sources of waste glycols, opening new avenues of supply. With proper handling, glycols can be recycled and reused indefinitely, creating the opportunity to utilize this valuable material as a predominately sustainable resource.
