LAKEVILLE, Minn., Sept. 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The editorial team at healthinsurance.org has announced the call for entries for the 2014 Health Wonk Scholarship, a competition with annual awards of $2,500 and $1,500 for full-time master's and doctoral students working in medicine, public health, nursing, and related fields at an accredited U.S. university or college.
As one of the longest-running sources of in-depth information about the American health insurance industry and how it affects the U.S. healthcare system, healthinsurance.org understands keenly the critical need for individuals who are dedicated to better understanding the system's challenges – and who are active in pushing for improvement in that system.
For this reason, the editorial team at healthinsurance.org is pleased to announce the 2014 Health Wonk Scholarship, an award that recognizes the work of students in many disciplines who are working to improve population health and improve the quality of health insurance coverage for all Americans.
Two students will receive 2014 Health Wonk Scholarship awards for the spring term of the 2015 school year. A Gold Award of $2,500 and a Silver Award of $1,500 will be distributed to the winning students through the school where the student is enrolled.
To enter healthinsurance.org's 2014 Health Wonk Scholarship, students must submit a 1,000-to 2,000-word essay; a 500-word personal biographic statement, and a resume or curriculum vitae. The personal biographical statement should include career objectives related to health.
The essay must address a topic pertinent to clinical care, public health, research, health policy, or advocacy that describes opportunities for the improvement of health coverage, health care, and population health in the United States. By publishing the best essays submitted by scholarship entrants, healthinsurance.org seeks to increase public awareness of the importance of expanding access to affordable, quality health insurance coverage.
Applicants must submit all entry materials by e-mail to health.scholarship@healthinsurance.org by 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2014. Winners will be notified after January 5, 2015.
Winning entries will be selected by a scholarship panel comprised of leading figures in medicine, public health, and health policy journalism. The panel will be determined by Scholarship Committee Chair Harold Pollack in consultation with the editorial team at healthinsurance.org.
