CP Kelco Announces Intent to Build New Citrus Peel Plant in Latin America

ATLANTA, Sept. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CP Kelco, a leading global producer of specialty hydrocolloid solutions, today announced plans to build a new processing plant in Latin America for dry citrus peel, subject to final approval by the company's Boards of Directors. Citrus peel is the core raw material used to produce pectin, one of CP Kelco's strategic product lines.

"In light of the current global shortage of citrus peel and the continuing rapid growth in pectin demand across all regional markets, investing in a new peel facility demonstrates our commitment to serve as a sustainable provider of pectin over the long term," said Don Rubright, President of CP Kelco.

The company's planning initiative follows the decision earlier this year to invest in a significant capacity expansion of its pectin manufacturing facility in Limeira, Brazil. Announced in February 2014, the Limeira plant expansion is targeted for completion in 2015.

"These investments in our pectin business will enable us to advance the use of pectin as a high-performance ingredient in food, beverage and other applications across both developed economies and emerging markets," Rubright said.
