SURFLINE POWERS SURF DATA FOR FIELD TRIP FROM GOOGLE'S NIANTIC LABS

Geographic exploration app will feature surf spot information

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Nov. 5, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Surfline, the world's leader in surf forecasting, live HD surf cameras, editorial content and surf photography, has joined with Google's Niantic Labs to provide Surfline's proprietary surf spot content in Field Trip, a cutting-edge geographic exploration app available for iOS, Android and Google Glass.

Niantic Labs is an autonomous unit within Google exploring location-based technology that augments experiences in the physical world. With a guiding principle of "adventures on foot," the company's goal is to leverage technology, especially wearables like Google Glass, to connect people with the information that surrounds us in every day life.

"We're excited to work with the folks at Niantic Labs" said Ross Garrett, General Manager of the surf business for Surfline. "They understand the power of putting the right data in the right place, for the right people and this was a very natural fit."

Consistent with Surfline's mission of enabling peak experiences in the ocean, through the Surfline surf spot content, Field Trip users are given expert insights about surf spots near them. This includes the best swell direction for that spot, the best tide, ability level, season, parking and other important information for 3,238 spots around the world.
