STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Not-for-profit SoldierSocks announced today that it has awarded scholarships to US Navy Petty Officer Michael Thompson, Purple Heart Recipient and Airman First Class Josh Collins and First Lieutenant Jesse Campion, all veterans who have served in the war on terror and wish to continue or further their education now that their tour is over.
SoldierSocks offers scholarships through their Veteran's Education Foundation, which goes to the trade school, college or university of the veteran's choice. Scholarships are also offered through an endowment at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
Currently, the Post-9/11 GI Bill will provide veterans with up to $19,077 per year to be used at colleges, universities, trade schools, apprenticeships, on-the-job training and flight schools for up to 36 months. The scholarships will help fill in tuition gaps that are not covered by the GI bill.

Josh Collins is pursuing a degree in psychology at Florida Institute of Technology.
Petty Officer Thompson is finishing his Master of Public Administration degree at Old Dominion University and will pursue an MBA beginning in January 2015.
First Lieutenant Jesse Campion is in his third year at Syracuse University and is completing a Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctor degree.
