Rightside Expands Online Options for Professionals With .ENGINEER

TLD Brings a New Wave of Business Expression for Engineering Community

KIRKLAND, Wash., Nov. 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rightside Group, Ltd. (Nasdaq:NAME), a leading provider of domain name services that advance the way businesses and consumers define and present themselves online, today announced the launch of .ENGINEER. Designed for a variety of roles across the industry, this new Top Level Domain (TLD) offers a way for engineers to present and describe their work online.

With more than one million people in the U.S. alone who identify as computer engineers, .ENGINEER provides an avenue for this industry to express professional and technical orientation, formal training, and certification via a unique URL. Rightside's chief technology officer, Wayne MacLaurin, plans to have the company's engineering team use the new .ENGINEER extension for email correspondence. "Now that the .ENGINEER domain is available, all the engineers on our team will have email addresses ending in @rightside.engineer, which will identify them as engineering professionals when they're corresponding with colleagues, external partners, and within the tech community," MacLaurin said. "Engineers take great pride in their profession, and I think the .ENGINEER extension will make sense for civil, electrical, mechanical, software, and many other kinds of engineers in addition to those in the technology field."

The launch of .ENGINEER signifies an evolution of the internet that is helping engineering professionals capitalize on the growing availability of web domain options with endings that go beyond legacy extensions such as .COM. Instead of relying on long, hard-to-remember web addresses like pacificgroupengineer.com, the engineering community can create shorter and more memorable URLs like pacificgroup.engineer. These new domains offer new ways to improve visibility with new and existing clients at every point of contact – through online and offline ads, web and search traffic, signage, emails, and business cards.

Intending to also appeal to the community of over 962,000 U.S. software engineers, Rightside also plans to launch .SOFTWARE on December 10 to provide a unique TLD option for similar technical and scientific audiences.

Through Rightside's retail registrar Name.com and other registrar partnerships, getting a new web or email address ending in .ENGINEER is now a simple process, one that is connecting engineering professionals of all kinds with relevant, memorable domains for themselves and their companies.
