TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2015) - A research and administration delegation from the Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations (AIM-HI), led by its Director and Vice President Yeau-Ren Jeng from National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan, paid a visit to several top-notched universities in India, including Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), and Amity University in early March this year. In particular AIM-HI and IIT Bombay held a joint Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing on March 2nd~3rd to discuss research results from a variety of topics, including precision machinery, control system, wireless sensor and smart grid, etc. To further accolade the importance of the joint workshop, MoU and agreements for research collaboration between faculty members and student exchange programs were signed. By signing these agreements, both sides agree to further expand and deepen research collaboration and exchange programs at multiple levels in the future.
During their visit, the AIM-HI delegation has received high-profile support from Taiwanese government officials stationed in India, including Ambassador, Mr. Chung-Kwang Tien and Deputy Ambassador, Ms. Chung-Feng Lee, from Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Division Head of Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Han-Chung Chang, and Secretary of Ministry of Education, Mr. Yi-Ta Chen. Addressing the future cooperation and exchange with higher education institutes in India, Ambassador Tien offered many thoughts and suggestions on how to promote higher education and industrial development, and shared many of his personal experiences in India. Moreover, Deputy Ambassador Lee and Secretary Chen both made a special trip flying from New Delhi to Bombay to witness and give opening statements to the joint workshop between AIM-HI and IIT Bombay. In her remarks, Deputy Ambassador Lee specifically mentioned Taiwanese government has for many years continuously offered many a scholarship and stipend to help Indian students study in Taiwan.
Vice President Jeng also gave a speech at the opening ceremony of joint workshop, in which he specifically pointed out that AIM-HI over the past few years has put significant efforts to develop cutting-edge technologies in both green (energy-saving) and intelligent manufacturing, and has achieved extraordinary outcomes. AIM-HI also has injected a great deal of resources into developing young talents in the broad manufacturing area. Specifically, over the past three years, more than 150 students from about 20 top universities all over the world have attended the summer research program sponsored by AIM-HI. Among those who attended, a significant portion was from IIT Bombay, and colleagues at AIM-HI have been very impressed by the outstanding research productivity and integrity amply demonstrated by the IIT students.
With those very favorable and positive impressions in mind, Vice-President Jeng had an opportunity to meet Dr. Rajiv Dusane, who happens to be the Director of International Affairs from IIT Bombay, while both were attending the President's Forum of Southeast and South Asia and Taiwan Universities (SATU) last November. They exchanged many ideas about higher education and international cooperation and, which soon led to the proposal of joint workshop between AIM-HI and IIT Bombay as a platform to know each other better in a substantive manner. With the blessing of mutual interests and convictions, plus tireless preparations behind the scene, the joint workshop on advanced manufacturing came to fruition in less than four months after the meeting. At the conclusion of the joint workshop, colleagues from both sides also reached the agreement that a second joint workshop will be planned and held in September this year on the CCU campus to further expand the scope of research collaborations.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was ranked number 50 among top 200 Universities worldwide in the Higher Education Supplement Evaluation 2005 from The Times of UK, and ranked number 3 among science and engineering universities worldwide, right after MIT and UC Berkeley. Amity University is one of the new and widely known private universities in India. It has 19 domestic and 5 overseas campuses and is about to open the 6th campus in Dubai. Amity University has exchange programs with many renowned universities in the world, such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Cambridge University. It tries to expand the scope of international exchange programs, and is highly interested in establishing dual-degree and student exchange programs with universities in Taiwan. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi also clearly demonstrates their interests in establishing similar program as well.

The Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations at National Chung Cheng University was funded under the auspices of Top University Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. AIM-HI has taken advantages of the most advanced technologies from different research fields such as information and communication, electronics, control systems, mechanical and material engineering to develop manufacturing systems that are intelligent and energy efficient, namely the Advanced Manufacturing System.
