TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - May 4, 2015) - The 2015 TAIPEI 101 Run-up race, the highlighted global tower run-up race, was launched on May 3, while more than 4,500 participants from 38 countries joined the event, which has been regarded as one of the most difficult races in the world today.
While TAIPEI 101 became a member of the World Federation of Great Towers since Oct. 15 last year, the annual run-up race also became a part of the Tower Running World Association's tournament.
Meanwhile, to encourage local participants, there is an additional award of "domestic championship" to go to the man and woman who become the winners among Taiwanese participants, with a prize of NT$38,000 each.
Piotr Lobodzinsky, the most highlighted participant from Poland, won the title this year, with a record of 11'08", after his sueccessfully defending his second place of the race during the past two years. Suzy Walsham from Australia became the champion of all female participants with a record of 13'16", after she has been the winner of the same race in 2009 and 2010.
Among domestic participants, Kuo Chun-ku and Chiu Li-ching were the winners for all male and female participants, with records of 12'53" and 19'39".
TAIPEI 101 Chairman Christina Sung and Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je also completed the entire race of 390 meters with 91 floors and 2,046 steps, while Sung finished with a record of 34'16"and Ko completed it after 45'54".

A new rule was introduced to this year's race, while the "elite group" and the "self-challenge group" were combined to "individuals group", to allow every individual participant for the chance of being awarded.
While the winners were always foreign participants during the past decade, TAIPEI 101 decided to increase "domestic awards" that Taiwanese participants, men and women, were awarded anyway as long as they beat fellow Taiwanese competitors.
Also, whoever completed the entire race was eligible for the medal which was designed by Xiao.
TAIPEI 101 invited tenants, diplomats and Taipei City Government's officials and employees to join the race
TAIPEI 101 invited diplomats from around the world to join the race by organizing a relay team, as the race has become an international and important event for world-class participants while they come from different countries.
TAIPEI 101 tenants also organized a group to race against diplomats and Taipei City Government's participants during the event. The Taipei City Government team won the medal with a record of 9'24", while Chou Te-yu, TAIPEI 101 President and the leader for TAIPEI 101 team and Larry Tseng, Director-General for Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Protocol, arrived at the finish line at almost the same time. TAIPEI 101 team finished the race with a record of 12'13" and the diplomats' team finished with 12' sharp.
