LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 10, 2015) - Jorge Ramos, Univision anchor and one of Time's 100 Most Influential People (2015), is the featured keynote speaker and special honoree at the UCLA Extension Certificate Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 19 at Royce Hall.
The annual ceremony recognizes graduates of professional certificates -- led by Generation X and Millennials -- who realize the advantages and necessity of augmenting their education with career focused credentials.
"I believe Jorge Ramos is a trusted voice for millions of Americans and his insights on world events, politics, and the economy, are significant," said Wayne Smutz, Dean of UCLA Extension and Continuing Education. "We think his keynote address to our graduates will be very inspirational and energizing."
The Keynote Address at the Certificate Graduation Ceremony will be a homecoming for Jorge Ramos. In the 80s, Ramos enrolled in journalism courses at UCLA Extension including Investigative Journalism, On-Camera TV Interview, and TV News Writing and Production. He attributes his studies at UCLA as giving his career a jump start, as he landed his first television job, at KMEX in Los Angeles.
Ramos anchors "America with Jorge Ramos" for the network Fusion (a joint venture between ABC news and Univision). He has been the anchorman for Noticiero Univision since 1986 and Ramos also hosts "Al Punto", Univision's weekly public affairs program offering in-depth analysis of the week's top-stories and exclusive interviews with newsmakers.
A survey conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center found that Ramos is the second most recognized Latino leader in the country. Latino Leaders magazine chose him as one of "The Ten Most Admired Latinos" and "101 Top Leaders of the Latino Community in the U.S."
"Ramos carries near biblical authority, at least in the eyes of his nearly 2 million nightly viewers," Forbes magazine reported.

A bestselling author, Ramos' most recent book in English is "A Country for All; An Immigrant Manifesto" (Vintage/Random House).
He has been instrumental in promoting literacy among Latinos. In 2002, he created the first book club in the history of Hispanic television: Despierta Leyendo (Wake Up Reading).
Ramos holds a degree in communication at the Ibero-American University in México City and has a Master's degree in International Studies from the University of Miami. The University of Richmond gave him an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters in 2007. He is also the recipient of numerous awards in journalism and broadcasting, literature and letters, and advocacy and service.
The UCLA Extension Certificate Graduation Ceremony at Royce Hall commences at 4pm on June 19th.
