At two weeks of age, Harper Elle Howard was overcome with seizures. Her parents scoured the country searching for a doctor who could tell them what was happening. CDKL5 is a rare and debilitating seizure disorder that presents itself in the first few months of a child's life. The condition had only been diagnosed 300 times globally prior to Harper's diagnosis. Since then, the number of children diagnosed with CDKL5 has doubled. Those living with CDKL5 suffer from a wide array of health issues – leaving them with the inability to talk, walk or feed themselves. Many are confined to a wheelchair.
Penny continues, "In 2013, Dustin and I saw a documentary on cannabidiol or 'CBD' that was derived from the 'marijuana' plant. We were hopeful but Texas wasn't a medical cannabis state at that time. Moving away from our family and support group to a medical marijuana state simply isn't an option so we searched for alternatives.
