American Portfolios Participates in World T.E.A.M. Sports 2015 Adventure Team Challenge

HOLBROOK, NY--(Marketwired - September 22, 2015) - American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS), a privately-held, independent broker/dealer which provides services and support to financial advisors throughout the country, continues its long-standing support of the World T.E.A.M. Sports' (WTS) mission through its participation in the Sixth Annual Adventure Team Challenge (ATC).

The WTS goal is a commendable one-to "change lives through sports." For the last 20 years, the organization has organized various athletic events in partnering disabled and abled-bodied men, women and children together in accomplishing physical challenges they never thought possible. Over the course of a long weekend, developmentally-disabled teens and young adults engage in a series of competitive team sporting events.

From Sept. 10 - 12, APFS, in conjunction with WTS, sponsored an inclusive challenge hosted by The Center for Discovery, a community of care located in Harris, N.Y., devoted to the health and well-being of people with disabilities; this event was held at the Frost Valley YMCA Camp near Claryville, N.Y. Eleven APFS employees and affiliated financial professionals participated alongside athletes with disabilities to complete each stage of the multi-sport event. The outdoor sporting event included an orienteering course, a climb up Slide Mountain-the highest peak in the Catskill Mountains-a bicycling/running/hurdle-jumping relay challenge, and a rowboat regatta event on Lake Cole.

Each team taking part in the challenge was made up of four athletes with disabilities and six to eight able-bodied coaches. Through the inclusive competition, disabled participants were able to build confidence, serve as role models for others, and inspire teammates and spectators alike. APFS CEO and WTS Chairman Lon T. Dolber, who served as the ATC challenge director, related that, "Despite the weather challenges, the weekend was a great success. We often debate who these events are more meaningful for: the athletes, volunteers or the coaches. In the end, we all walk away confirming the humanity we see in each other."

Dolber's sentiments were reinforced by APFS financial advisor David Rey, who celebrated his fourth year as an ATC coach. "The Adventure Team Challenge is a rewarding event for everyone involved. It never fails in being an awesome three-day experience for new athletes and coaches who are brought in to participate in what truly is a life-changing event."

APFS looks forward to participating in the next WTS event, the 2016 Face of America Bike Ride from Arlington, Va., to Gettysburg, Pa., which will take place April 22-24, 2016.
