Lexile Text Measures Added for Select Amazon Publishing Children's Titles

Popular Reading Metric to Help Children Pick the Right Books for Improving Reading Skills

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - September 28, 2015) - MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading, today announced the addition of Lexile® measures for titles from global publishing leader Amazon Publishing. Lexile measures will be provided for titles from the Two Lions imprint.

Two Lions publishes children's picture books, chapter books and novels. Among the books that have received Lexile measures are 2015 Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal winner You Are (Not) Small (Lexile measure: BR) and That's (Not) Mine (Lexile measure: BR) by Anna Kang and illustrated by Christopher Weyant, The Blood Guard (Lexile measure: 710L) by Carter Roy, and Goodnight, Little Monster (Lexile measure: 270L) and its sequel Go to School, Little Monster (Lexile measure: AD 220L) by Helen Ketteman and illustrated by Bonnie Leick.

"Lexile measures offer enormous help to parents seeking the appropriate reading level for their children and we are pleased to now offer this standard to our award-winning and critically acclaimed Two Lions books," said David Blum, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Two Lions.

Recognized as the standard for individually matching readers with texts, tens of millions of students worldwide receive Lexile measures to help them choose targeted readings from more than 100 million articles, books and websites that have been measured. MetaMetrics assigns Lexile measures to a title after analyzing the complete text using proprietary software that evaluates its semantic and syntactic dimensions. Lexile measures range from below 0L for beginning reader text to above 2000L for more advanced text.

"We are thrilled that many of Amazon Publishing's prominent children's titles will now have Lexile measures," stated Malbert Smith, Ph.D., president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "Amazon Publishing and MetaMetrics share a common purpose and vision to improve the reading experience for everyone. Through this partnership, children will be able to select engaging books that are targeted to their reading level and will sharpen their reading skills."

In addition to Lexile measures being available for books from Amazon Publishing, Amazon.com provides Lexile measures for tens of thousands of books. Amazon.com has included Lexile measures on its product pages as well as a Lexile search filter to help customers select books that best fit their reading ability.
