Central Animal Hospital Re-Achieves Accreditation From International Organization

SCARSDALE, N.Y., Oct. 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Central Animal Hospital has recently re-achieved accreditation in the American Animal Hospital Association, an honor given to only 15 percent of small animal hospitals in North America.

The prestigious distinction demonstrates that the community animal hospital meets or exceeds more than 900 standards for animal care, hospital services and medical equipment.

The association requires renewing the accreditation every three years to make sure an institution remains up-to-date on current standards of care. Central Animal Hospital first received AAHA accreditation in 1983, and has continued to achieve this accreditation every renewal period.

“This kind of recognition from the industry is always welcomed, but our high standards of quality aren’t any surprise to our patients and their owners,” said Dr. Michael Woltz, VMD, one of eight highly-trained veterinarians on staff. “Every owner of every pet we care for each day knows that we consistently focus on delivering the highest levels of quality medical and surgical care.”

Woltz said the staff is especially dedicated to working with patients but also encourages their professional peers to keep learning and striving for excellence in their own practices. The veterinary staff serves on the boards of several national and international professional associations and societies, and is also qualified to perform international health examinations.

Central Animal Hospital also includes state-of-the-art equipment designed to monitor and detect various diseases, problems and allergies. Basic procedures are available, such as spaying, neutering and vaccinations, along with more advanced treatments such as chemotherapy, surgeries, orthopedics and ultrasounds.

“Our motto here is ‘Your Pet’s Health is Our Primary Concern,’ and it’s something we take to heart whenever we care for any patient, large or small,” Dr. Woltz said. “This compassion is enjoyable to share, whether it’s a cat or dog that someone loves that needs our help, or any other type of companion animal.”

Applying for the AAHA accreditation required the staff to examine its processes in more than 900 areas, everything from pain management to online outreach, from professional development to general philosophies. A final part of the process included an in-person evaluation and walk-through from a member of the AAHA team.

The association has been offering accreditation to hospitals since 1933 and encourages every hospital to go through the process, since it encourages teamwork and helps establish quality procedures and maintain high standards of organization.  It offers an online self-evaluation and can arrange a non-binding practice walk-through to give hospitals an idea of areas that can be improved.

“We are proud to continue our status among the 15 percent of AAHA-accredited hospitals in the U.S. and Canada,” said Dr. Woltz. “This is just another step in our efforts to deliver the highest standard of veterinary care.”

Central Animal Hospital offers standard and advanced veterinary care to residents of Scarsdale and the greater Westchester area, including an in-house pharmacy, boarding services and online resources.
