LUBBOCK, Texas, Nov. 15, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ginter Eyecare Center is participating in the U Can Share Food Drive to benefit South Plains Food Bank (SPFB) from November 2-30, 2015. Every customer who brings 24 cans of canned goods to the office will receive a 50 percent discount on new frames and a pair of standard lenses (some exclusions may apply). The SPFB hopes to collect 300,000 pounds of food as well as $125,000 in donations to help combat hunger in the Lubbock, TX area.
According to Dr. Jewell Ginter of Ginter Eyecare Center, the U Can Share Food Drive is an opportunity for the community to address a serious issue in the Lubbock community. "Hunger can be a problem in our community and I believe it is a problem that no child should ever have to face. Our participation in the South Plains Food Bank's annual drive is a way for us to ensure that we do our part to help alleviate hunger in our neighborhoods," stated Dr. Ginter. "Our annual drive helps to fill over 5,000 Christmas boxes with a week's worth of food for a family of four. It also provides food well into the New Year for struggling Lubbock area families."
The U Can Share Food Drive is in its 32nd year. The annual drive originally began as a community service outreach of KCBD-TV News Channel 11 in an effort to aid struggling families in Lubbock and across the South Plains. The SPFB will be accepting donations of canned goods and cash from December 7-12, 2015 at locations throughout the city.
By holding their canned food drive early, Ginter Eyecare Center is hoping to collect a large number of canned goods to donate in December. "We collect canned goods at our office for an entire month prior to the official collection dates. This, combined with our frames and lenses discount, offers an incentive to our customers as well as an extended opportunity to participate. We believe it also raises awareness about the issue of hunger and food insecurity in our community," stated Dr. Ginter.
