Expanding the Reach of Patient Safety and Health Care Quality Education

National Patient Safety Foundation and Israeli Medical Association Collaborate to Educate the Field

BOSTON, Nov. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), a central voice for patient safety since 1997, and the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) have signed an agreement to collaborate on a package of patient safety and health care quality educational materials for medical professionals in Israel. The activities will be administered by the Israeli Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQH), a program of the IMA.

"NPSF is committed to supporting the education of health professionals around the world in regard to patient safety," said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, president and chief executive officer, NPSF. "We're pleased to be working with IMA and ISQH on this important initiative."

The agreement allows for the Society to leverage selected modules from the NPSF Online Patient Safety Curriculum. These materials will be combined with quality-focused content developed by the Society to deliver a complete, balanced safety and quality program to ISQH stakeholders. Participants who successfully complete the program and the associated quizzes will receive a certificate issued jointly by the two organizations to attest to their commitment.

"The Israeli Medical Association and ISQH seek to expand safety and quality education and practice among health care practitioners in Israel," said Ran Balicer, MD, PhD, MPH, president of ISQH. "Working with NPSF is a very good fit, as our goals align, and the Foundation has already created basic educational modules that are very relevant to our practitioners."

Health care in Israel is publicly financed and delivered through four health plans similar to health maintenance organizations in the US. Health care practitioners from these plans and from 40 hospitals in Israel will be eligible to take part in the program.
