NEW YORK, NY and PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 8, 2015) - MongoDB, the database for giant ideas, today announced the appointment of Tom Killalea to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Mr. Killalea joins the board as an independent board member.
Mr. Killalea spent 16 years at Amazon, where he was the company's first Chief Information Security Officer and led the infrastructure and distributed systems team, which later became a key part of the AWS platform. While there, he also led the product development and engineering teams for the Kindle Content Ecosystem, where he advanced the Kindle reading experience by creating innovative features such as X-Ray and Popular Highlights, and built the Amazon Publishing technology platform.
"Tom will be a valuable addition to our board given his impressive track record as a product and technology leader, as well as his deep knowledge in building and scaling what's now the world's largest cloud business," said Dev Ittycheria, president & CEO of MongoDB. "As we continue to rapidly grow our business, having a board that combines seasoned business and technology leaders will be an important ingredient for our continued success."
Mr. Killalea also serves on the board of Orreco, and previously served on the board of Xoom (acquired by PayPal). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from the National University of Ireland and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Trinity College in Dublin.
"I'm attracted to companies that make transformative use of innovation to impact how they serve their customers. In MongoDB's case, customers mean developers. The MongoDB database is architected to take as its starting point the desire of developers to have their database enable rather than impede them," said Mr. Killalea. "The MongoDB team is very forward thinking about where the technology is going and it's a privilege to be part of a business that has the opportunity to be a seminal technology company."
