ARLINGTON, Va., March 2, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Latvia's Air Navigation Service Provider "Latvijas gaisa satiksme" (LGS), which provides Air Navigation Services in the Riga flight region, has recently awarded a contract to Tetra Tech AMT to conduct a Performance Based Navigation (PBN) airspace concept development and implementation.
PBN implementation in the Latvian terminal airspace is seen as a key enabler for the advanced terminal operations. Deployment of PBN procedures will result in significant reductions of environmental impacts, particularly where the airspace design supports continuous descent operations and continuous climb operations. This project will also integrate terminal procedures/routes with the Free Route Airspace activities already underway in the Riga airspace.
LGS wants to investigate improvements to procedural efficiencies, with the primary focus of PBN procedure design to gain both safety and environmental operational benefits. This project will be instrumental in creating a more effective operational network for Latvia's airspace and will also advance the development of more efficient procedures to reduce emissions and aircraft noise, while improving weather-related delays, an enhancement that is critical to the economic growth of the country.
