ALBIOMA : Albioma wins three projects for photovoltaic plants with integrated storage (5.9 MWp) in the French overseas departments

On 13 June 2016, the French Minister of the Environment, Energy and the Sea selected Albioma as one of the winners of the call for tenders launched by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission de Régulation de l'Énergie) on 18 May 2015 in areas that are not interconnected.

The Group has been assigned three projects for photovoltaic plants with a total installed capacity of 5.9 MWp, i.e. 17% of the total power distributed among the winners in the overseas departments and regions. Added to the 75 MWp under operation, these will include two rooftop projects on Reunion Island (overall power generating capacity of 2.6 MWp) and a ground-based project for a non-hazardous waste storage facility in Guadeloupe (power generating capacity of 3.3 MWp). The development of the three projects represents an overall investment of some €13 million.

Since 2014, the Group has been developing photovoltaic projects with integrated storage. This high added-value technology significantly increases the availability of the installation, smooths output during the day (to cope with cloudy spells or bad weather) and increases predictability. The first plant of this type, with a capacity of 1 MWp, installed on a shopping centre rooftop in Saint-Leu (Reunion Island) and equipped with lithium-ion batteries, was inaugurated in mid-2014.

Frédéric Moyne, Chief Executive Officer, said, "Albioma's commercial success here illustrates the technical expertise of our teams and demonstrates the competitiveness of our solutions. Solar power with integrated energy storage allows us to meet the constraints of the grid operator by providing guaranteed energy in non-interconnected areas.

Albioma has thereby consolidated its position as a major player in renewable energy in the French overseas departments and regions, contributing to the energy transition in these territories."

Next on the agenda: first-half 2016 results, on 26 July 2016, post trading.

About Albioma

Albioma is an independent energy producer and world leader in the conversion of biomass into a highly-effective source of energy, in collaboration with its agri-business partners. For more than 20 years, Albioma has operated power plants recovering bagasse, a fibrous by-product of sugar cane, replaced by coal outside the sugar cane harvest. Its unique expertise has enabled Albioma to establish itself as an indispensable partner in the sugar and ethanol industry in the French overseas territories and Mauritius. Albioma is now developing power plants using only biomass, which recover, in addition to bagasse, green waste and wood industry residue. The Group also operates a highly-efficient photovoltaic installation and agricultural anaerobic digestion units. In 2014, the Group, which already had a presence in mainland France, the French overseas territories and Mauritius, began operating in Brazil, the world's leading sugar cane producer.
