NetApp Expands Commitment to Growth in China With New Leadership

BEIJING, CHINA--(Marketwired - Sep 6, 2016) - To advance its plans for global growth in key markets, NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced the appointment of Fredy Cheung as area vice president, Greater China.

As an industry veteran, Cheung brings deep expertise and knowledge to NetApp in the region and across the globe. He also has rich experience with and unique insights about the diversified new economic models of Greater China's ICT market. Cheung will lead the company's go-to-market activities, including sales, presales engineering, and multi-pathway business, based in NetApp's Beijing office. He will report directly to Rick Scurfield, president of NetApp Asia Pacific.

Cheung was previously the CEO of Capital Online Data Services Ltd. Beijing, an IaaS provider specializing in solutions for e-commerce, Internet gaming, online education, and other Internet applications. Before he held that position, he spent more than 25 years in sales and sales leadership roles with 3Com and Cisco. Most recently he was corporate vice president and general manager of the China Enterprise/Service Provider/Commercial business for Cisco in Beijing.

Active in laying the foundation for e-government on an international scale, Cheung was the driving force behind a series of international Asia-Pacific public services summits held in Beijing between 2004 and 2012. This major initiative brought together representatives and government officials from over 20 countries around the world to share best practices and build networks to foster cross-border government collaborations.

According to Rick Scurfield, Greater China is one of NetApp's most strategic growth markets. Scurfield also states that this market has performed consistently as well as been recognized as one of the region's Great Places to Work for four consecutive years.

"Greater China is key to NetApp's growth plans, and amid this time of change we are delighted to have Fredy as part of the leadership team that will drive our business forward. We look forward to his visionary leadership and pivotal contributions to growing our presence in the market," Scurfield said.

Speaking about his new role, Cheung said, "I am deeply honored to join NetApp's impressive management team in Asia and to be entrusted with continuing the great work they have achieved. Greater China will continue to be a major driver of global economic growth and its technology industry will undoubtedly play an immense role in the country's relentless journey toward digital transformation."

A native of Hong Kong, Cheung holds an electrical and electronic engineering degree from the University of Nottingham in England.
