New Eriez Flotation Division Brochure Spotlights Benefits of Coarse Particle Flotation

DELTA, British Columbia, Sept. 22, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Eriez® Flotation Division (EFD) announces the publication of a new brochure covering the company's extensive history and groundbreaking achievements in coarse particle flotation (CPF) technology. The brochure reveals that the HydroFloat™ Separator, which has already re-shaped the mineral processing industry, is now being applied to the sulphides and base metal markets where it is proving to greatly reduce capital and operating costs while improving sustainability and environmental efforts through radically reduced grinding and comminution amounts. With HydroFloat, it is no longer necessary to grind 100 percent of the ore to full liberation.

As described in the "The Benefits of Coarse Particle Flotation" brochure, HydroFloat can treat particles at a relatively coarse size, up to and exceeding 800 microns. The HydroFloat is able to treat this coarse range of particles while maximizing recovery of value and creating a throw-away coarse tailings stream.
According to Mike Mankosa, Ph.D., and Eriez Executive Vice President of Global Technology, unlike conventional flotation, the HydroFloat only requires a small portion of the hydrophobic mineral to be exposed on the particle surface to be recovered. This exposure can be less than 1 (one) percent. In a typical concentrator, this can result in the creation of a coarse tailings stream that is quite beneficial for tailings management.

A significant benefit of this approach is that the amount of grinding and comminution is radically reduced. Simulations show that energy consumption can be reduced by 50-75 percent. Additionally, mill throughput capacity can be increased by at least 25 percent with an improved IRR or net present value.
As a part of the 2016 International Mineral Processing Congress (IMPC) technical program, Mankosa published three papers on coarse particle flotation in sulfides. At this show, Eriez and EFD also featured its wide array of state-of-the-art separation technology for mineral processing, including magnetic separators, suspended magnets, metal detectors, StackCell® Flotation, sparging systems and column flotation cells.
