Mountain View, CA, Dec. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WSO2 today announced a new case study examining how Australian Catholic University (ACU) is using WSO2 middleware to provide students with single sign-on (SSO) to apps on its disparate systems, whether from their computers or mobile devices.
The backend system that powers ACU’s student portal relies on WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB) for integration and Ellucian Ethos Identity, an identity and access management (IAM) solution for higher education built on WSO2 Identity Server. Through the portal and backend services, students now have a personalized hub for seamlessly accessing event, schedule, announcement and course information from ACU’s various systems. The full case study can be read here.
The Need for a Seamless User Experience
Since its inception, ACU has employed a number of different systems to perform various functions in the university, such as scheduling classes and exams and managing course registration. For years, students had to access these systems through separate interfaces, each having its own login. As a result, students found it difficult to keep track of the relevant information they needed to go about their day-to-day life on campus.
The new case study from WSO2 examines how ACU has created a centralized student portal powered by WSO2 integration and IAM technology to provide a consolidated view of everything that is important for a student’s day-to-day university life. It first outlines the key factors in selecting WSO2 technology and how the solution was architected. The case study then discusses the benefits ACU has realized, including higher user adoption and increased student engagement. It concludes by presenting ACU’s plans to use the WSO2-powered backend platform as the basis for delivering other services quickly and cost effectively that respond to business needs.
ACU Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Niranjan Prabhu said, “As part of ACU IT transformation, we are enabling foundation blocks for the digital and innovation capabilities of the University. This enterprise integration platform is one of the critical components in the transformed IT ecosystem.”
ACU Application Delivery Manager Vijesh Makanji explained, “We strategically invested in this WSO2-based technical foundation not just for the portal but also to support other digital transformation use cases that may arise in the future as we keep pace with rapid changes in technology, stay ahead of competing universities, and provide a first-class user experience to our student community.”
“ACU understands the need for agility in providing value-added digital services for students and staff, alike, and it has been at the forefront in developing a solution with the flexibility to adapt to its future demands,” said WSO2 Vice President of Solutions Architecture Asanka Abeysinghe. “We are excited by the success of ACU in using our WSO2 ESB and WSO2 Identity Server technology to create the backend system driving its centralized student portal, which will serve as the stepping stone toward meeting its broader digital transformation agenda.”
