Louisville, KY, May 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Appriss Health, provider of the most comprehensive platform for substance use disorder (SUD) in the nation, today announced that The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) will enhance the South Carolina Reporting & Identification Prescription Tracking System (SCRIPTS) by providing access to Appriss Health’s NarxCare. All approved South Carolina prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) users will have access to this comprehensive platform that provides machine learning- and artificial intelligence-based patient risk scores and other information in a visual and interactive format to help care teams quickly identify potential signs of addiction efficiently and effectively. NarxCare also helps care team members connect patients with additional resources within their community if needed, such as medication-assisted treatment.
More than 8,000 prescribers and pharmacists in the state access SCRIPTS to gain real-time insights that help improve patient safety at the point of care. The impact is notable as the state has observed a 29 percent reduction in opioid prescriptions within its Medicaid population. By now providing access to NarxCare, the State of South Carolina aims to further support the positive changes already underway, enhancing how prescribers and pharmacists care for patients with advanced analytics.
“The ability to tap NarxCare has made a major impact on my day-to-day experiences as an emergency physician,” said William Gerard, MD, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, Palmetto Health Quality Collaborative. “Time is of the essence in the exam room, which is why having access to clear cut data is crucial. NarxCare identifies patterns within a patient’s history that would otherwise go undetected and presents in a visually succinct manner, giving us a means to have a more productive and open dialogue with our patients. Ultimately, I believe this type of information, at the point of care, will help us identify and, hopefully, stop addiction before it starts.”
The NarxCare enterprise license agreement enables South Carolina to offer access to all features and functions of NarxCare in a consistent look and feel for users who access the solution through their state PDMP web portal. It also enables delivery of NarxCare within EHRs and pharmacy management systems for those prescribers and dispensers in South Carolina that choose to access NarxCare through integration within their healthcare IT system via Appriss Health’s PMP Gateway solution.
“Partnering with South Carolina to deploy NarxCare to all its prescribers and pharmacists state-wide is an important ‘next step’ towards maximizing PDMP effectiveness in the fight against the opioid epidemic,” said Rob Cohen, President, Appriss Health. “South Carolina is a model for the potential of PDMPs across all the nation on how to best inform their clinicians and improve the quality of care they deliver to their patients.”
On May 14, 2018, all approved SCRIPTS users had access to NarxCare. In addition to the existing SCRIPTS functionality, powered by Appriss Health’s PMP Aware platform, NarxCare aggregates and analyzes prescription information from providers and pharmacies and present visual, interactive information, as well as advanced analytic insights, risk scores, alerts, red flags, treatment resources and more to help physicians, pharmacists and care teams to provide better patient safety and outcomes up front, for every patient, every time.
