Washington, DC, July 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
PRESS RELEASE

In the late evening hours of July 19, 2018, Norma Amabilia Lopez Sales filed suit against the Trump administration, alleging racial bias, discrimination, and the unlawful separation of her child, and is seeking an order from a Federal Court Judge to compel the return of her nine-year-old daughter.

The action, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges that Trump administration officials engaged in a campaign of fear and intimidation against asylum seekers and refugees, designed to inhibit the legal immigration of individuals from Mexico and Central America seeking refuge in the United States. These policies, which disproportionately affect persons of Hispanic descent, have led to the horrific separations of children from their parents on the US border. The plaintiff, Lopez Sales, suffers from brain cancer and the trauma caused the Trump administration’s actions have dealt an incalculable toll. The continued separation of mom and daughter is unconscionable, and this lawsuit demands the immediate return of the child to her mother’s care and custody.

Libre by Nexus posted a charitable $15,000 bond on behalf of Lopez Sales and referred her case to immigration and civil rights attorneys. This lawsuit is funded by Nexus Services and seeks declaratory and injunctive relief. “No matter how wrong the administration is, there is always the possibility of redemption. Redemption starts with returning this little girl to her mother. History will judge this Presidency not just on the unconscionable acts that led to this lawsuit, but on how the President responds to the brokenness and pain he has caused” said Mike Donovan, President and CEO of Nexus Services. Attorney Mario Williams, who represents Lopez Sales, said "The President's conduct guarantees the continual humiliation of our country before the world community. Pressuring asylum seekers to agree to their own deportation as well as agreeing to the deportation of their child as a condition precedent to reunification is a heinous violation of human self-worth and dignity." The lawsuit reads: “Indeed, this new policy is nothing more than a lash-out, primal scream by The Administration, which has suffered under world-wide derision for this heinous violation of human self -worth and dignity. Undoubtedly, it’s time for this Court “to take the rattle from the baby.”

Lopez Sales’ attorneys demand the immediate release of the child and will be seeking all available relief from the Courts to reunite this family and end their suffering.
