Critical illness, personal injury accident, and hospital indemnity coverage continue to be top growth products for carriers, according to Eastbridge Voluntary Product Trends Frontline™ Report

AVON, Conn., Oct. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Voluntary critical illness, personal injury accident, and hospital indemnity insurance were the top three growth products for the carriers’ own companies over the next two to three years. In terms of growth products for the voluntary/worksite industry overall, critical illness again took the top spot, with accident taking over second place, moving hospital indemnity/supplemental medical to third.

The top three most frequently offered products by over 80 percent of carriers surveyed are accident, critical illness, or short-term disability insurance.  The market has evolved since 2012 when short-term disability and term life were the most frequently offered products.

Over 25% of carriers rated accident, AD&D, and critical illness as “very profitable” product lines. The majority of carriers rated their products as having “average profitability,” which is similar to the 2014 and 2016 surveys. Very few of the participating carriers rated any voluntary products as “not profitable or financially attractive” or “currently not profitable but expected to be in the future.”
