  • Since switching to mc2 seven years ago, the Charity has saved 18 percent off its energy bills, producing more than $200,000 in savings
  • mc2 continues its support of Ronald McDonald House by donating $5 for every residential customer who makes the switch online to mc2 for electricity supply

CHICAGO, Oct. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (mc2), a Chicago-based retail electric-service provider, announces the extension of its Green Power supply agreement with Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI). mc2 will continue to supply electricity through 2020 to the Charity’s five area Houses located near some of Chicago’s top hospitals. In addition, mc2 has extended programs to financially support the Charity and continue employee volunteer efforts.

“When we opened our office in Chicago a decade ago, we wanted to give back to the community by supporting a local charitable organization,” said Chuck Sutton, president of mc2. “We strongly believe in Ronald McDonald House and its mission to care for the families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community.”

mc2 announced its support of the Charity in conjunction with the 2011 launch of its residential electricity supply program in the ComEd service territory by donating $5 for each new customer. These new online enrollments have generated thousands of dollars in donations to date.

mc2 also developed a customized electricity supply program with a competitive rate that helped the Charity reduce the cost to power each of its five area Houses, shaving an annual average of 18 percent off energy bills versus the cost for utility tariff-based electricity supply. This program has produced more than $200,000 in savings since 2012, with an additional $30,000 in savings expected in 2018.

In addition, each area Ronald McDonald House has reduced its carbon footprint by supporting renewable energy and environmentally-friendly resources, which benefits the community — and the planet — as a whole. The mc2 100 percent Green Power Program provides renewable energy certificates (RECs) from wind farms for every unit of electricity consumed at each House.

"The generous commitment mc2 has made to the Charity has already resulted in significant cost-savings,” said Holly Buckendahl, Chief Executive Officer, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. “These savings enable us to make a greater impact on the lives of children and families we serve in our community.”

Because the Charity is an independent not-for-profit organization, it must rely on donations from individuals and companies like mc2 to support its programs.

“Running any home can be expensive so it is critical that we leverage opportunities to reduce costs wherever we can, including the cost of electricity,” Holly added.

Over the past seven years, mc2 residential customers have helped support children and families by making the switch to mc2 for their electricity supply. mc2 employees and executives also volunteer to raise funds and awareness for the cause — including Sutton, who raised over $14,000 by skiing more than 50,000 vertical feet in the Colorado Rockies in one day.
