“To prevent addiction, we need to start at home by emptying out our own medicine cabinets so unused medications don’t fall into the wrong hands,” says Jessica Hulsey Nickel, founder of the Addiction Policy Forum. “We tend to be hoarders of sorts, holding onto that bottle of antibiotics and the bottles of prescription pain medication, when in fact we should regularly dispose of all medications to keep our kids and family safe.”
