Addiction Policy Forum Helps Americans Dispose of Unused Prescription Drugs

Leading Addiction Non-Profit Offers Free Rx Disposal Kits to Encourage Safe Prescription Medication Disposal

Washington, D.C., Nov. 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As overdose death numbers continue to rise, Addiction Policy Forum encourages everyone to clean out their medicine cabinets when they turn the clocks back an hour this Sunday and to help keep prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands. The organization is promoting medication awareness and safe disposal, and giving out 20,000 free Rx Disposal kits in partnership with their State Chapters. To order a free Rx Disposal kit, attend an Addiction Policy Forum event near you or visit www.addictionpolicy.org/rxdisposal.

“To prevent addiction, we need to start at home by emptying out our own medicine cabinets so unused medications don’t fall into the wrong hands,” says Jessica Hulsey Nickel, founder of the Addiction Policy Forum. “We tend to be hoarders of sorts, holding onto that bottle of antibiotics and the bottles of prescription pain medication, when in fact we should regularly dispose of all medications to keep our kids and family safe.”

“Our goal with this initiative is to raise awareness about why it’s important to safely dispose of prescription medications, and to provide people with the tools they need to easily do so,” adds Morgan Gliedman, Addiction Policy Forum’s Vice President of Education and Engagement.

For information about prescription opioid misuse, the signs and symptoms of substance use disorder, safe disposal methods, and to order a free Rx Disposal kit visit www.addictionpolicy.org/rxdisposal.
