ACWA Comments on Proposition 3 Vote

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Timothy Quinn, executive director of the statewide Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), issued the following statement today in response to the defeat of Proposition 3, the Water Supply and Water Quality Act.

“Proposition 3’s passage would have provided critical funding to invest in aging infrastructure and diversify our water supplies to respond to a growing population, climate change and its impacts on long-term water supply reliability,” Quinn said. “While the result of last night’s vote on Proposition 3 is disappointing, I’m optimistic that California water suppliers can overcome these challenges through their proven history of innovation and dedication to a sustainable California water future.”

Proposition 3 was an $8.8 billion general obligation bond that would have provided funding for water projects intended to provide safe drinking water to disadvantaged communities, implement the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), repair infrastructure and restore watersheds.

ACWA’s Board of Directors unanimously supported both Proposition 3 and Proposition 68, which was approved by voters in June 2018.
