Nokia receives "Innovation of the Year" award for the WAP Server from PC Professionell Magazine

The Nokia WAP Server was acknowledged as an exceptional innovation in the field of information technology. The Nokia WAP Server was said to exemplify the results of extensive development work.

The jury consisted of specialist editors from renowned IT publications, PC Professionell Magazine, Internet Professionell and on-line magazine ZD Net. According to the jury: "Nokia has been a pioneer in setting up an infrastructure, which allows the use of Internet on wireless devices like mobile phones and PDA's, in addition to PC's. By combining the Nokia 7110, the first WAP terminal that has been available in high volume, with the easy-to-use Nokia WAP Server and developer's toolkit, Nokia is setting the milestone in spreading this technology."

"This award is the result of a very committed work by Nokia's WAP server product development group. In addition, Nokia is grateful to all third party developers who have participated in beta testing the product. We truly appreciate this award from such an esteemed group of specialist editors as it acknowledges Nokia's work in developing innovative wireless Internet products that are especially relevant to corporate users", said Pertti Lounamaa, Vice President, Nokia Internet Communications.

The Nokia WAP Server is the world's most recognized WAP server, allowing businesses to fully leverage the power and functionality of existing and new service offerings in a mobile environment. In the first 60 days of availability, it received 15,000 trial downloads. The Nokia WAP Server complies with the WAP 1.1 specification and features the first commercially available implementation of the Wireless Transportation Layer Security (WTLS).

"With the combination of the Nokia WAP Server, WAP Toolkit and overall leadership in this field, Nokia provides system integrators with an ideal opportunity to enter this rapidly emerging market" noted Rainer M. Richter, General Manager Continental Europe, Nokia Internet Communications.
