A record-breaking final contract has just been signed by FLS miljø a/s, part of the FLS Group, for the supply of a turnkey flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD) plant for the 2,000 MWe coal-fired power station at West Burton near Retford, Nottinghamshire, in the United Kingdom.
The contract, amounting to DKK 1.3 billion (EUR 175 million), is the largest ever for FLS miljø and includes not only the turnkey supply of the four 500 MWe FGD units but also a complete limestone and gypsum handling plant together with milling, conveying and waste-water treatment systems. The contract involves a consortium with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) who will be supplying process design and key absorber components The FGD plant is expected to enter into operation in 2003. FLS miljø's share of the overall value will be approx. DKK 1.1 billion (EUR 148 million).
Another milestone for FLS miljø is the use of the new Double Contact Flow Scrubber (DCFS) technology originally developed by MHI. It will be the first time this highly efficient FGD technology will be applied to a European power plant.
The contract was awarded to FLS miljø by Eastern Merchant Generation Ltd., part of TXU Europe Power, one of the largest power generating utilities in the UK.
The contract on which work was commenced last fall has been recorded in FLS miljø's order intake for 1999 and will be taken to revenue over the three year construction period. The contract is in line with the growth strategy of FLS miljø and the economic value is included in the expectations of FLS miljø for the next three years.
