Amer Tobacco Ltd and Swedish Match have signed a distribution agreement as a result of which Amer Tobacco will import Swedish Match's cigars and pipe tobacco into Finland. The agreement comes into effect as of 1 August 2000.
With a market share of 60%, Swedish Match is a market leader in the Finnish cigar market through brands such as Hofnar, Van Kemp and Portino. Among its pipe tobacco brands, Borkum Riff is one of the best selling brands in the world. Amer Tobacco will replace the current distributor in Finland, Seita Tupakka Oy.
Amer Tobacco's share of the Finnish cigar market was 4 % in 1999. The new co-operation with Swedish Match is expected to increase Amer Tobacco's sales by approximately EUR 9 million (FIM 50-60 million) in a full year.
