BALTIC COLOR GETS THE FIRST ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION IN LATVIA

The paint factory A/S Baltic Color in Riga is now the first enterprise in Latvia to receive environmental certification in compliance with the requirements of standard ISO 14001. The factory is jointly owned by the Finnish Tikkurila Paints Oy, part of Kemira Oyj, and the Swedish Alcro-Beckers AB. Certification was granted by the Finnish SFS Certification stating that the company's environmental management system fulfills the requirements of standard EN ISO 14001.

The paint factory AS Baltic Color in Tallinn (also jointly owned by Tikkurila Paints and Alcro-Beckers), was granted a similar environmental certification in 1998 as the first enterprise in Estonia and all the Baltic states. The two Baltic Color plants are clearly pioneers in environmental matters in any Baltic industry.

Certified environmental management systems are a natural continuation of certified quality systems. Baltic Color's factory in Tallinn was granted a quality certification in compliance with standard ISO 9002 in 1994 and the plant in Riga in 1996. Marketing company UAB Baltic Color in Vilnius, Lithuania, received certification in 1997.

Baltic Color has a total of 170 persons on its payroll in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Production comprises of mainly water-borne decorative paints in Tallinn and of solvent-borne paint products in Riga. Also, the only silicate paint factory in the whole of Northern Europe operates in Riga. The products are mostly marketed to the Baltic countries, Belorussia and the Ukraine.
