Nokia Supplies Exodus With Dedicated VPN Gateways For Internet Data Centers

Las Vegas - May 9, 2001 - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced an agreement to supply Exodus Communications®, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXDS) a leader in complex Internet hosting, with its award winning dedicated VPN hardware for Exodus' Managed Hardware VPN Gateway Service for enterprises. As a customer of Nokia's clustered VPN solutions, Exodus® is now also able to offer these reliable, resilient VPN solutions to meet the demanding needs of organizations hosting mission-critical applications in one or more of their Internet Data Centers.

In search of a truly reliable VPN solution, Exodus sought a high performance, scalable, reliable, and flexible managed VPN service offering to complement its existing family of security solutions. With its unique, patented IP Clustering capability, solid performance, centralized policy-based management and support for industry standards, the Nokia VPN gateways met the list of criteria established by Exodus, including best-of-breed active session fail over and dynamic load balancing.

Exodus engineers were impressed with the Nokia VPN Gateway's ability to recover quickly and fully from simulated performance failures. "Our customers count on us to provide dependable services that are always there when they need them, which means reliability of the hardware is at the top of our list," said Frank Sheeman, Vice President of Managed Security Services, Exodus Communications. "We rigorously tested the Nokia VPN product which proved to be easy to use, demonstrated impressive throughput, and superior in reliability. Given these factors, the dedicated Nokia VPN was the obvious choice."

Nokia offers a unique array of award winning, standards based VPN solutions ensuring secure connection across Internet, extranet and remote access connections. Exodus first chose Nokia for its integrated Firewall/VPN solution, tightly integrating Check Point FW-1 software on the purpose built Nokia platform delivering a hardened, ready to deploy, easy to install, high performance network security solution.

The December 2000 issue of Network World provides evidence of Nokia's superior VPN performance. Class-leading fail-over speed and load balancing performance earned the Nokia dedicated VPN top honors in the Network World review. Nokia was the stand-alone survivor of the rigorous testing performed by the Network World Global Test Alliance, offering "the most amazing high availability and load balancing feature set," earning Network World's "World Class Award." Also reported by Network World, "Nokia's CC2500 gateway came closer to high-availability nirvana than any of the other products tested...outperforming the nearest competition by a factor of 10 to 1."

Exodus' new managed gateway-to-gateway VPN security offering expands its existing suite of VPN design and deployment services. The new service extends the reach of Exodus Internet Data Centers (IDCs) to enterprises by providing a fast, secure and cost-effective method for deploying intranet and remote access VPNs. All Exodus VPN services are backed by a security team of more than 80 experts that are dedicated to firewall and VPN installation, monitoring and management.

Nokia offers a full range of award winning network protection, extension and acceleration appliances designed to meet the most demanding security requirements. Nokia's standards-based VPN solutions are purpose-built platforms, designed to ensure secure seamless connectivity across intranets, extranets or remote-access connectivity. For growing organizations where VPNs have begun to play a more strategic business role, Nokia's family of dedicated VPN solutions offer high availability with seamless session fail-over, and scale to the most demanding performance requirements on the market. Exodus will offer Nokia's entire family of VPN solutions, including the Nokia CC500, CC2500, CC5200 and CC5205.
