Nokia to expand the GSM and GPRS networks of Hainan Mobile Communications in China

Nokia will provide a GSM 900 network expansion and its short message service center (SMSC) solution to Hainan Mobile Communications in China in a deal worth USD 25 million. The contract allows Hainan Mobile Communications to enhance the coverage of its existing GSM 900 network, as well as strengthen its GPRS and short-message text services. Deliveries have already begun.

Under the agreement, Nokia will supply GSM switching equipment, radio access equipment and an SMSC, as well as GPRS upgrades for Hainan Mobile Communications' entire radio-access network. In addition, Nokia will supply upgrades to the operator's GSM 900 mobile switching centres to support advanced services such as virtual private network (VPN). Furthermore, a full package of professional services are provided including project management, network implementation, training and emergency support services.
