The Kärsämäki production facility of Incap Furniture Ltd was almost completely destroyed by fire yesterday. The destroyed facility, the production machinery and equipment, the inventories and the interruption of operation were insured.
Production at Kärsämäki will be down for the time being. A more accurate estimate of the possibilities to continue production and to arrange substitute production as well as of the financial impacts of the damage will be given as soon as possible. The Varpaisjärvi unit of Incap Furniture will continue its normal operation.
All employees of the Kärsämäki unit have been laid off, and they have been provided both psychological and financial emergency support.
The net turnover of Incap Furniture Ltd in January - March 2001 was EUR 8.9 million and operating profit EUR 0.12 million. The company accounts for nearly 40 % of Incap Group's overall net turnover of EUR 22.5 million. Incap Furniture has about 240 employees, of whom 160 work at Kärsämäki.
